Luke Rebbechi
Geologist - Approvals/Community Engagement
Luke studied geology at the University of Melbourne, where he earned a Master of Science (with Distinction) in 2015. He commenced his career at Fosterville Gold Mine, taking on various geology roles during the discovery and mining of the ultra-high-grade Swan Lode.
In 2019, Luke redirected his focus to greenfield exploration in Victoria, undertaking the role of Project Exploration Geologist. In this position, he managed a range of exploration programs, including diamond drilling, air core drilling, airborne and ground geophysical surveys, soil sampling, mapping, and desktop studies.
Luke joined AMETS in September 2023, bringing with him expertise in preparing exploration activity proposals, compiling annual technical reports, utilising GIS systems, and promoting community engagement.
What is your ideal holiday?
Anywhere with beautiful scenery and walking trails. I need to be able to cram so much into my holiday that I come home more tired than before I left.
It’s my shout for morning tea, how do you take your coffee?
I don’t actually drink tea or coffee (yes I’m weird).
What is it that you do at AMETS?
I assist clients with exploration approvals, mine management plans, technical reports, maps, and any other geological services they may require.
What do you love about your position?
The diversity of projects and clients, and the flexibility that AMETS provides.
How do you spend your time when you are not at AMETS?
Away from work you will find me walking the dog in the forest near our home, going for a run, watching sport, or reading.
What are you most grateful for?
I am grateful for my family and friends.
Which three things do you take to a deserted island?
A kindle (preloaded with lots of non-fiction books), sunscreen (because I will burn the moment I am exposed to the sun) and lots of non-alcoholic beer (because I really know how to party).
What do you love most about being an Ametarian?
The flexibility of the role and talented colleagues.
Do you have a favourite quote?
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
“Happiness cannot be pursued, it must ensue.”
Viktor Frankl – Man’s Search for Meaning
