Compliance in Victorian Mining – A Critical Obligation

A reminder that Mining licence holders in Victoria must comply with the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990, Regulations, and any conditions attached to their licence. This includes adhering to the approved work plan and actively progressing toward mining operations.

Failure to comply may result in licence cancellation or non-renewal. With the introduction of the retention licence, mining licences are now intended for establishing and operating a mine—not just for land evaluation. Additionally, under the Act, a mining licence may be cancelled if mining has ceased for two continuous years, subject to Ministerial discretion.
