By staying true to our values and maintaining focus on our goals, we have turned challenges into opportunities, emerging stronger and more resilient than ever. These experiences have given us a fresh perspective as we prepare for 2025, ensuring we continue to springboard off our successes and keep reaching higher.
This year, we have also said goodbye to some valued team members as they moved on to advance their careers. While we will miss them, we are excited to see opportunities open up for our existing team members. Watching team members develop and grow into their new roles has been a rewarding part of this journey, and we remain committed to fostering an environment that supports their professional growth.
A special acknowledgment must go to all our staff, who consistently demonstrate professionalism, client-focus, and a strong work ethic. Their unwavering commitment to providing exceptional service has been instrumental in earning the respect of our clients and peers. We are incredibly proud to have such a dedicated and talented team as part of the AMETS family.
As we move into 2025, we are determined to continue providing cost-effective, professional services and partnering with our clients to achieve mutual success. We value the trust our clients place in us and the feedback they share, which drives us to continually improve and adapt. Together, we look forward to another year of growth, collaboration, and success.

What a productive year 2024 has been for our expanded AMETS Geoservices Team – from major approval milestones, geological data reviews and reporting across all states. We anticipate it will only ramp up in 2025. Some of our major highlights are listed below:
Key Industry Observations & Team Highlights
- New VIC Guidelines
The exploration and mining landscape saw some important developments in 2024 with the introduction of Victoria’s Updated Exploration Reporting Guidelines. The new guidance has clarified requirements for report and data formatting, providing greater consistency and transparency for stakeholders. - Improved WA and QLD Portals
Improvements to the WA & QLD Department portals have streamlined the reporting process, resulting in enhanced templates that simplify submissions. - Increased Requests for Information
In 2024 we saw more Departments across Australia conducting audits of historical Annual Reports resulting in increased Requests for Information. Despite some very tight timelines, our Geoservices Team successfully assisted clients to source historical information and with preparation and resubmission of Annual Reports to gain compliance. Some Annual Reports the subject of auditing, were 10 years old, resulting in difficulties for clients to obtain relevant historical information due to staff turnover within their companies or changing company ownership. This increase in audits is a timely reminder to ensure adequate archiving processes and future proofing of data is in place. The increase in auditing is a trend that we anticipate will continue into 2025. - Stricter Approvals Requirements – Environmental Controls
Another upward trend we have seen across Australia is the increasing scrutiny of exploration approvals, particularly around environmental controls. This may potentially lead to further increases in Requests for Information throughout 2025. - NT Environmental (Mining) Licences
AMETS Geoservices Team & NT Team assisted a client to obtain the first Environmental (Mining) Licence granted under the new framework. The transition from Mine Management Plans to Environmental (Mining) Licences in the Northern Territory has begun and no doubt there will be many more MMPs transitioned over the course of 2025. - Rehabilitation Liability Bond Reduction – VIC
In 2024 a Victorian Client received notification of a significant increase in Rehabilitation Liability Bond. The financial impact of that increase may have resulted in the Client ceasing mining activities. Our Geoservices Team’s attention to detail, legislative knowledge and determination resulted in a 77% reduction in bond being negotiated, saving the client approximately $475,000, enabling the client to continue the project. Into 2025, we are positioned to assist other operators who may experience similar Bond increases. - Significant Client Savings
Our experienced Geoservices Team saved a client approximately $100,000 by identifying a Mining Licence exemption reducing the client’s vegetation offset payment by 80%, and saving the client 50% on their Rehabilitation Liability Bond. - Overlapping Renewables Projects
The renewables projects across Australia have continued to increase in 2024, a trend likely to continue for the foreseeable future. This year, we’ve helped an increasing number of clients identify exploration projects that are at risk from overlapping planned renewables projects. - Increase in EPEPRs Approvals in SA
2024 saw a massive upswing in preparing South Australian Exploration Program for Environmental Protection Rehabilitation (EPEPRs) for clients. This internal trend reflects the growing importance of South Australian resources, particularly with global clean energy transitions.

It would be safe to say that NSW exploration slowed over the early 2024 financial year, but there has been an optimistic upswing with most clients planning extensive on-ground activities for the field season. During 2024, we have seen an increase in the historic reports audits by the Department. This has lead to an increase in requests for information. We see this trend continuing into 2025.
Another upward trend we have seen across Australia is the increasing scrutiny of exploration approvals, particularly around environmental controls. This may also potentially lead to further increases in Requests for Information throughout 2025.
AMETS has been working with AMEC, NSW Resources, Resources Regulator, and the NSW Minerals Council, providing recommendations to improve systems and achieve better outcomes for all stakeholders, including landholders. We had some major wins for clients this year with Activity Approval Packages (APOs), working closely with the Resources Regulator to streamline processes to ensure timely assessment and approvals.
AMETS gained valuable insight from attending some of the NSW Resources events into Land Access, Community Consultation projects, processes and case studies. Other events enabled us to connect with our clients in face to face and celebrate their wins with them.
In 2024, the AMETS NSW team demonstrated strong performance and a commitment to delivering value for our clients and stakeholders. As we move into 2025, we remain focused on fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and supporting positive outcomes for landholders, regulators, and the broader industry.
If you would like to discuss your NSW requirements, contact our NSW Team at [email protected].
2024 has been an interesting year for the AMETS Northern Territory Team. From transitioning to new legislation and processes, to maintaining strong relationships, 2024 has been a year marked by growth and collaboration within the teams, with our clients, the Departments and advisory bodies.
In Early 2024, Danielle Alchin was promoted to Senior Tenement Manager, recognising her dedication, expertise and contributions to the team.
The NT Team and Geoservices Team excitingly achieved an industry first, by assisting an AMETS client to obtain the first official granted Environmental (Mining) Licence in the Northern Territory – read more here.
2024 has seen an increase in renewables projects across Australia, a trend that is only going to strengthen in 2025. We encourage you, if you have any questions or concerns, to reach out to us to identify and monitor for renewables projects that may overlap your current or proposed tenure, to enable strategic decision-making.
2025 will see also see important changes to the Water Act 1992, affecting anyone using surface water or groundwater for mining activities. More information to be sent out in January 2025 around the impact of these changes. Again, if you have questions, we encourage you to ring us to discuss the effects specific to your titles and what you’ll need to do.
During 2024, we’ve continued to nurture stronger relationships and connections with Government Departments, Land Councils, Associations and other stakeholders. The NT team actively participated in providing feedback on draft legislation aimed at enhancing the Northern Territory’s Mineral Titles Act and Regulations and are ready to collaborate with clients in 2025 to ensure a smooth transition to new mineral title legislation. It will be an exciting year of change and we are looking forward to assisting clients to ensure they get the most cost effective and beneficial results tailored to their needs.
As we look forward to the opportunities of the upcoming year, we extend our gratitude to our clients, partners, and the Northern Territory community for your continuous support. Here’s to another year of collaboration, growth, and shared success in 2025!
If you would like to discuss your NT requirements, contact our NT Team at [email protected].
In 2024, AMETS marked a significant milestone: 12 months since expanding our operations into the vibrant and resource-rich market of Papua New Guinea (PNG). It has been a period of taking on new clients within the region, due diligence projects and establishing our connections within the Department.
PNG’s newly appointed Mining Minister, Hon. Wake Goi, assumed office on September 25 at Government House in Port Moresby with a commitment to open and transparent dialogue with stakeholders lays a strong foundation for sustainable growth in the mining sector.
AMETS looks forward to continuing our strong partnership with the Mineral Resources Authority of PNG, where our direct engagement allows AMETS to stay aligned with the latest regulatory developments, ensuring our clients are well-positioned to thrive in their exploration and mining activities.
We look forward to building on this foundation, forging new partnerships, and driving success in the years to come.
In Qld, it has been an incredibly busy year and seems to be just getting busier! In 2024, the QLD Team welcomed Tenement Manager and Geologist, Kathryn Brown. During the year, the QLD Team has seen an increase of 14% in new clients to the business requiring specialist knowledge in areas of Land Access, Due Diligence and amalgamations in particular. We anticipate that trend to increase into 2025 and welcome the newly elected governments enthusiasm towards the QLD resources sector.
This year we have seen a dramatic increase in the need for QLD clients to meet their Land Access statutory obligations under the various Acts and Regulations. This has resulted in an increase in due diligence investigations undertaken by AMETS and increased landholder contact. We expect that 2025 will see the trend continuing to increase.
As with other states, Government auditing has increased markedly over 2024, with a focus on the gathering and recording of historic data. We’ve worked closely with the Department and numerous clients to get their historic compliance requirements up to date so that they can move forward with their projects fully compliant.
In the first year since the introduction of the Queensland Government’s Critical Mineral Exploration rent waiver, AMETS clients have collectively saved over $2.3 million to date. A significant portion of these savings has been reinvested into on-ground exploration, demonstrating the value of this initiative and the proactive support provided by AMETS in navigating the benefits for our clients.
Our Principal Tenement Manager, Tamara Grothues, continues to travel to Mareeba to hold one-on-one meetings, providing personalised support, fostering stronger industry connections and tailored guidance to clients. Tamara also sits on the North QLD Miners Association committee and is active in the QRC Exploration and Teunures Working Group collaborating with government to ensure efficient processes and compliance with changing regulations.
Tamara not only oversees AMETS tenement portfolios with dedication but also generously donates her time to organise and officiate at various motocross events throughout QLD. Throughout 2024, she has organised a series to develop the skill of junior racers and officials, with a view to giving them a pathway to competing at State and national levels. Tamara is a familiar face at motocross events throughout the state, where she not only supports the riders but also officiates, contributing to the smooth execution of these thrilling competitions.
2024 has been a year of growth, collaboration, and success for the AMETS QLD Team. We look forward to building on these achievements and continuing to be a trusted partner for our clients and an active contributor to the mining and exploration industry in 2025.
If you would like to discuss your QLD requirements, contact our QLD Team at [email protected].
In 2024, our South Australian portfolio experienced remarkable growth primarily in the areas of Due Diligence and Geoservices, and almost doubled the number of Exploration Program for Environmental Protection Rehabilitation (EPEPRs) prepared for clients reflecting increased activity within the South Australian resources industry.
South Australia continues to anchor itself as a key jurisdiction for critical minerals essential to the world’s energy transition, including copper, uranium, graphite and zircon. A significant milestone for South Australia was the commencement of the Hydrogen and Renewable Energy (HRE) Act (the HRE Act) on 11 July 2024.
The HRE Act introduces a streamlined “one window to government” regulatory and licensing framework. Developed through extensive consultation, the Act positions South Australia at the forefront of the global clean energy transition. Key aspects include:
- Regulation of large-scale hydrogen and renewable energy projects.
- Fair and transparent pathways for project development.
- Best practice licencing and regulatory standards.
- Strict technical, environmental, and consultation requirements for licensing.
As with other states, we expect that there will be an increase in SA client requests for overlapping tenure identification and monitoring to ensure asset safety, and if need be, allow strategic planning.
In other exciting news, September 2025 will see the Asia-Pacific’s International Mining Exhibition (AIMEX) moved to Adelaide from NSW, a reflection of its importance to the global resources sector.
If you would like to discuss your SA requirements, contact our SA Team at [email protected].
The AMETS Tasmanian Team, has had a productive year in 2024, actively collaborating with clients and stakeholders, focusing on approvals and funding opportunities for clients.
In 2024, Tasmania’s mining sector has experienced significant developments, with both challenges and strategic initiatives shaping its trajectory.
The Tasmanian Government unveiled the Critical Minerals Strategy and the Minerals Royalty Rebate Scheme to capture some of the critical minerals market and revitalise legacy mines through reprocessing of historic tailings.
The Tasmanian Government has continued to allocate funding to support new mining projects through the Exploration Drilling Grant Initiative (EDGI). This investment aims to stimulate exploration and development, potentially leading to the discovery of new mineral reserves and the creation of additional employment opportunities in the sector.
As we move into 2025, the team is excited to build on this year’s successes, driving innovation and sustainability in Tasmania’s mining industry.
If you would like to discuss your TAS requirements, contact our TAS Team at [email protected].
The AMETS VIC Team has been committed to significant timeframe reductions for Work Plan Approvals over 2024. We’ve seen amazing results for our clients over the year resulting in quick approvals, very significant cost savings for clients and the ability to get back out into the field. Environmental approvals have been another area of heavy focus for the Victorian Team throughout the year, again with great wins in terms of timeliness for clients. Bond reduction negotiations by AMETS for one client was the difference between production continuation and going into care and maintenance.
Victoria’s Updated Exploration Reporting guidelines has also seen some significant gains in consistency and transparency for stakeholders. Community liaison matters have increased dramatically over the year, and we expect that trend to continue throughout 2025.
In line with Australia-wide trends, we saw a dramatic increase in Requests for Information to support historic reports. For many of these reports, it has meant sourcing buried information, redoing the report and resubmission of the report. Very proudly, the team can say they met some very tight deadlines to get the reports submitted.
It has not all been office time though, in June, our team attended the AIG Victorian Minerals Round-Up in Ballarat, a geologically focused conference that provided valuable insights into the future of exploration and mining in Victoria. This event also offered a fantastic opportunity to meet with clients face-to-face, to celebrate their successes and getting some time to discuss their future directions and how we could assist their plans.
We also maintained close collaboration with MCA, AMEC and Resources Victoria, were involved in regular committee meetings and stakeholder consultation groups. These engagements continue to position AMETS as a trusted voice in the industry and ensure we remain informed and influential in key areas affecting our clients.
2024 has been a year of collaboration and achievement for the AMETS VIC Team. As we look to 2025, we remain committed to supporting our clients and driving innovation and excellence in the mining and exploration industry.
If you would like to discuss your VIC requirements, contact our VIC Team at [email protected].
The AMETS WA Team has had a huge year, filled with achievements, challenges, growth, and industry changes.
In 2024 we wished Jenny Johnson the best as she took up a role with the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC). We look forward to seeing Jenny at upcoming industry events.
Crucial for the growing electric vehicle (EV) and renewable energy markets, Western Australia is positioned as a global leader in the extraction and export of lithium. However, we continue to see a challenging market, with ongoing issues of over supply and lower than expected demand for lithium. This impacts shareholders and lenders, and we have seen a reduction of tenure. Additional factors involve the inclusion of Nickel on the Critical Minerals List and reduction of cashflow (due to lender hesitation in an unstable market).
2024 has seen increased collaboration with Indigenous communities on land use, cultural heritage protection, and joint ventures, leading to better social outcomes. In addition, we’ve also seen an increase in Programs of Work Applications, now that driller availability has increased post Covid.
WA has had a surge in clients utilising Geoservices in 2024 including the composure of Exploration Reports, Environmental Reports, Mining Proposals and Mine Closure Plans as well as mapping and surveying. We are seeing an increase in the use of geospatial data in real-time monitoring (e.g., through satellite imagery, drones, and remote sensing) allowing mines to make faster, more informed decisions, improving operational efficiency.
2024 has had a positive outlook for the oil and gas sector in Western Australia, with robust demand, investment, technological innovation, and supportive policies driving growth and sustainability.
Advances in exploration and extraction technologies, including carbon capture and storage (CCS) and automation, are making it easier and more cost-effective to extract oil and gas in remote and deep-water areas.
As we step into a new year, we express our appreciation to our clients, partners, and the Western Australian community for your continued trust and support. Here’s to another year of growth, innovation, and shared success in 2025!
If you would like to discuss your WA requirements, contact our WA Team at [email protected].
