Olivia Merrick
Environmental Advisor
Olivia Merrick joined AMETS in 2025 as an Environmental Advisor, bringing over 25 years of experience in environmental project management and compliance across Australia. She is highly experienced in developing site standards, managing environmental approvals, and ensuring compliance for major infrastructure and resources projects.
Olivia is a Certified Lead Auditor (Exemplar Global) and has extensive experience managing State and Federal environmental impact assessments, post-approval documentation, and reporting requirements for large-scale developments.
At AMETS, Olivia provides environmental compliance support and guidance, helping clients navigate the complex regulatory requirements associated with exploration licences through to mine closure and rehabilitation. With her ability to identify and address potential compliance “hooks,” Olivia strengthens AMETS’ service offering by ensuring clients are well-prepared to meet environmental obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
Her depth of knowledge, combined with a practical approach to environmental management, makes Olivia a trusted advisor for both the AMETS team and its clients.
It’s my shout for morning tea, how do you take your coffee?
Latte please.
What is it that you do at AMETS?
I help the team with any environmental compliance related queries and undertake the required environmental reporting work, as needed. This is like ‘how long is a piece of string’ I know, but if we think about it like each licence has a multitude of environmental management compliance ”hooks” (i.e. a snag our clients can get caught on), I’m available to help advise and better guide us internally, to smooth over these ‘hooks’ – as an additional service should any clients need or want this type of assistance.
From an exploration licence right through to closing a mining operation for handover back to the state government, there are many (and nuanced by State) environmental management requirements. I’m here to help AMETS address these. I have worked across most of the country for the last 25 years, so am more or less familiar with most State requirements (I try to stay current with the ever evolving political landscape!).
What do you love about your position?
I like solving problems. The trickier the more interesting! So I am excited about the opportunity to assist AMETS with some complex environmental compliance issues and work out a solution that is best for our client’s project, to transition them to compliance.
The flexibility, genuine understanding and support from management is something that sets AMETS apart. I am very grateful to be able to support AMETS professionally, and thrilled at the chance to value add to the capabilities of AMETS.
How do you spend your time when you are not at AMETS?
Walking down to the beach and swimming with the kids, pool afternoons at home and bbq’s, driving my kids between sports games and dance classes (!), occasionally getting out for a meal with my husband. I used to horse ride but don’t have my horse here on the east coast (he’s in Perth where I grew up) so it’s a goal of mine to get back out riding, when I find the time… we also love to ski! July school holidays we will go to NZ/ Snowy mountains and are looking forward to going back to Japan in 2027.
What are you most grateful for?
My kids and my health.
What is your ideal holiday?
Maldives/ Fiji/ Indonesia (tropical islands).
Which three things do you take to a deserted island?
Each of my three children.
What do you love most about being an Ametarian?
The focus on quality and compliance for our clients. Having been in the resources and construction industries more or less for my whole career, there is a portion of the industry that does things the “quick and easy” way, which usually garners a low quality and oftentimes non-compliant result. Doing things the right way, the first time is how I like to operate, and working for AMETS reflects this core value. Warm working environment, the team, and flexibility.
Do you have a favourite quote?
Not really…but you might hear me say often “We aren’t saving lives. We can work this out, it will be ok.”
