Sally Sutherland
Geologist - Approvals
Sally Sutherland is a geologist with over 20 years’ experience in mining and exploration throughout Western Australia, Queensland, and Victoria. She gained a Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology from the Flinders University of South Australia. A recipient of a Tasmanian Government Mining Scholarship, she studied Honours at the Special Research Centre for Ore Deposit and Exploration Studies, University of Tasmania, where she undertook her research project at the Mt Lyell Underground Cu-Au mine in Queenstown, Western Tasmania.
Sally’s career commenced in Western Australia as a mine geologist at underground and open cut gold mines, before moving to iron ore and nickel. Her experience in exploration involves multiple commodities including iron ore, mineral sands, phosphates, copper, and gold in Western Australia, Queensland, and Victoria.
Sally joined AMETS in 2021 and works as part of the GeoServices Team in work approvals, technical report writing, and GIS.

What is it that you do at AMETS?
Approvals Geologist, including all facets of reports.
What do you love about your position?
Making maps using QGIS, fact checking, helping clients with approvals and work plans.
How do you spend your time when you are not at AMETS?
Hang out with my four cats (Vespa, Cara, Prince Harry, Hoover) and kelpie, Jake.
What are you most grateful for?
My four cats and kelpie.
What is your ideal holiday?
Flying first class to Tahiti with my four cats and kelpie.
Which three things do you take to a deserted island?
Pets, wine, matches.
What do you love most about being an Ametarian?
Being associated with a well-regarded, honest, and ethical company.
Do you have a favourite quote?
I have two!

Um…not sure if it’s PC. I gave my late mum a fridge magnet which said, “If we can put a man on the moon, why can’t we put them all there?”
